Chasing the Impossible

I was a punk 15-year-old kid when God changed my life in a huge way. I had experienced dedicating my life to him, but I was beginning to learn now the truth of surrender. What I began to grasp is that it is in surrender that the real fun begins. It was in that moment that Ephesians 3:20 would become my life verse. It simply reads in the Message translation:

God can do anything, you know—far more (Beyond) than you could ever imagine or guess or request in your wildest dreams! He does it not by pushing us around but by working within us, his Spirit deeply and gently within us. To the glory of God… Eph. 3:20

In the coming years, I would begin to grasp to see E320 happen, I first had to understand the foundation of Ephesians 3 as a whole. For brevity, I pulled some key truths/words that helped me today. And especially the days it doesn't seem God is doing much.

3:2 - Dispensation - giving oversight and stewardship over our life and household.

Grace - Favour that affords joy, pleasure, and delight, that affects our speech

Given - to let have; share unconditionally

You - for your individual sake

3:3 - Revelation - truth of God laid bare in nakedness to be fully grasped

Mystery - Confided to those who initiated; to have the purpose of counsel

3:4 - Understand - to grasp the power of what has been spoken, given, and shared

3:6 - Promise - to be proclaimed in one’s life

 Fellow Heirs - joint participant

 Partaker - partner

3:9 - Fellowship - surrendered participant in the truth of the word since the beginning of time.

3:10 - Known - To be recognized

Manifold Wisdom - Full of intelligence for diverse matters

Of God - Trinity working in unison

3:12 - Boldness - To walk in a fearless confidence

Access - To choose to move into a Holy place

Confidence - Assurance of truth, allowing to walk in 100% trust

Faith - A welcomed conviction that shapes our worldview

3:14 - Bow - Bending one’s knee in honor of authority

Father - The ultimate authority and creator

3:16 - Grant - To furnish to His children

Riches of Glory - Abundance of His splendor

Strengthened with Might - To live in the truth of His ability

3:17 - Dwell - To be settled in one’s soul and mind

3:18 - May be able to Comprehend - Obtaining and taking strong hold of the ability of God

3:19 - To Know - to perceive in one’s mind as the centered truth

Passes Knowledge - To surpass the understanding of earthly knowledge

Filled - Full measure of abundance to point of natural overflow

Fullness - Living in the completeness of God’s grace

God - The highest authority in one’s life

To some, this will translate just as a bunch of words. To others, it is the foundation in which we build our lives.

Personally, it transforms my life daily. In early November 2025, our eldest son set the word for the coming year. It was “Beyond”. (Every year, we set a word we are chasing as a family. Sometimes I set it, other times someone in the family does.) After sharing the word, he asked me, “Are you still living for ‘Beyond’ like you taught us? Does Ephesians 3:20 still apply to you, or do you think it’s just for everyone else?”

Wow! That rocked my soul! But just like when I was 15 years old, I surrendered, bowed my knee, and grasped the foundation of grace that God has for me as I apply His word. It’s amazing to have kids and a family, that will challenge me with the foundation of the truth.

What is the impossible you need to chase today? What are you willing to surrender to ignite His grace? What is the foundation of your chase?
